Remodel Update

We began tiling today! It took a week to frame the wall & get everything done up to this point...we are slow, but it should be pretty great. Rhett has done a good job, and I have helped as much as I can. A lot of the nights we worked late, one morning we were brushing our teeth and Rhett came running in from the garage said: "I had no idea it was so late. The sun is coming up!"
It's been fun and should be done in the next day or so.

Remodel Chaos

This week we started remodeling our bathroom. Even though we are renting, we decided to replace the shower surround, but this has turned into reframing the exterior wall, installing a new window, installing a fan, replacing the floor. The landlord is paying for all the supplies and we thought this would be a perfect opportunity to learn how to tile and not have to pay for it, and if it isn't perfect, we don't own the house and anything looks better than what it is. So in the end we'll have 1 year with a better bathroom, tools to tile in the future, and an opportunity to learn how to do it.
This is Day 2 and Rhett has been working hard against the odds (unexpected rot, surprise framing from the 1930s and it will go on and on I'm sure). We pulled out the existing plastic shower surround and there was so much water damage and rot. Some boards had rotted to the outside and you could see through.
We currently don't have a window, just a tarp stapled to the house. The biggest issue is the house only has the one bathroom, so we don't have a shower now. A friend had offered us her house to go shower at because they are gone for the summer, but we never ended up getting their key, and I had forgot about it, so yesterday when everything was torn out Rhett was shocked when I told him our shower hook-up fell through. I wasn't worried and told him my Grandma didn't shower her whole mission in Denmark because their bathroom was a toilet and a sink, so it worked out, and it was actually kind of fun to bathe from the kitchen sink, kind of like camping inside or something. We become more white trash each week I guess. Another friend has offered her house for the future, which we are thankful for.
Hopefully in a few days we'll have some pictures to post of our new beautiful bathroom, and so far despite the frustrating situations, we've been getting along great together--meaning Rhett is being really patient with me and my thinking I know how things should be done, when lets face it, I have no clue!

Official White Trash

This is our lawn. It has not been mowed once THIS YEAR! This photo was taken from our back porch last week and the weeds are even higher. We can no longer use the term "lawn" for it is a field. Our landlord was supposedly taking care of arranging lawn care, but we finally called someone ourselves and it happened to be the guy who did it last fall. He told Rhett our landlord has been calling him, shocking, but she never paid him for last fall so he didn't bother to return her calls. So we told him to start and we'll pay him directly and take it out of our rent.
The field is beyond his power, so to start he is arranging someone with a bush-hogger on a tractor to get it in a condition he could mow it.
It looks so trashy people are coming by thinking it is for sale or abandoned. They are always surprised to find that people actually live here. The current count is 5 people and one note. Two interested pop-ins actually tried to get in the house, thinking it was abandoned. Luckily both times Rhett was home, when he opened the door, one guy was already scurrying back to his truck, obviously embarrassed.
So we just thought we'd let you know...official white trash.
Like the car on the lawn to complete our new look?

Homemaker Blowout

I was making bread, and I usually take it upstairs to rise because it is so warm up there it goes quickly. Well, today I was too lazy to run it all the way upstairs, so I put it on the stairs, almost at the top. I got busy sewing and when I remembered I had dough raising, I found it oozing out on to the stairs. I showed Rhett the pic later and he asked if I used the dough that had escaped the bowl...of course not!
